GUEST SPEAKERS

Jonathan Bradshaw – CEO, Meetology
Jonathan combines his personal experience in human performance with over 17 years in the international meetings industry. His experiences on the sporting front include climbs on Mt. Everest, Mt. Kilimanjaro and an epic 3500mile/5500km bike ride. His career in the meetings industry includes over 7 years with the prestigious IMEX Group where he was Director of Business Development. He is a professional speaker and award winning industry columnist.

Jonathan will open the Washoku seminar with some insights into the importance of eating a proper breakfast before your meeting.

Jon’s interest in human performance comes from his sporting background. As well as playing semi-professional football he also spent many years running a successful personal training business. He has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro (2004), taken part in a three-month scientific research project testing human performance in extreme conditions on Mt. Everest (2007) and completed an epic 3400 mile/ 5600km European bike ride (2008).

This experience and interest  in human performance led Jon to investigate just how such knowledge could be used to create better business meetings and eventually led to collaboration with a team of psychologists and the formation of the innovative Meetology® Group.

Jon has entertained and educated audiences with conference presentations in over 30 countries, and his popular Reboot your Brain column in ONE+, MPI’s membership magazine, was awarded a coveted EXCEL award by the US-based Association Media & Publishing in 2010.

Susanna Wellenberg – Media professional and leading Japanophile
Susanna is a master of various media, one of Germany’s leading Japanophiles; an expert on Japanese cuisine, and an active volunteer in Tohoku helping put the region back on the road to progress after the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

Susanna will tell us all about the culture, importance and joys of Japanese food and we will leave the breakfast utterly convinced that it is not just sushi, hibachi, and noodles. Her book on the pinnacle of Japanese cuisine – Kaiseki – has been turned into a documentary film.

One of Susanna’s many other passions is volunteering in the earthquake-damaged Tohoku region of Japan, in the village of Rikuzentakata. The people are really working hard to rebuild their city and she is very happy to be able to do her little part in bringing a smile. Her next project is with owners of Miele who have kindly agreed to support her with bringing an oven to Asahi no Ataru Ie in Rikuzentakata and she is working on a full set of food and cooking activities to generate both money and wider engagement.

KING OF THE CASTLE

THE J TEAM Japan-Specialist DMC has just been appointed one of a highly select group of official coordinators for events at NIJO CASTLE, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in central Kyoto which is already the third most popular sightseeing location for foreign visitors to the city, and now instantly becomes the city’s premier venue for Gala Dinners, Unique Events, and CSR.

The site’s owners state, ”Nijo Castle is not only a property of Japan, but a cultural asset shared by the whole humanity”. Construction began in 1602 at the behest of one of Japan’s most powerful leaders ever, Tokugawa Ieyasu. The castle was placed firmly in the line of sight of the Imperial Palace to remind the then emperor of the power shift taking place in the country at the time. It was then used by successive shogun military leaders for 400 years until the shogun rule of Japan ended in 1868. Now, those buildings and gardens are ready to take on a new role as the leading business events venue in Japan.

As promised to City of Kyoto; in acting as Coordinator for MICE events at Nijo Castle, THE J TEAM DMC will honour the legacy of Tokugawa Ieyasu and his closely trusted advisor William Adams of England. THE J TEAM DMC will continue to use its unique position and international staff (two Brits, a French martial artist, the daughter of a Kyoto kimono maker, and five from varied and various cities and regions of Japan) to act like Adams and Tokugawa by living and working as Japanese and global citizens to create and deliver MICE events like no other.

The selection of THE J TEAM as the only specialist inbound company amongst the official coordinators represents not only recognition of The Team’s record in producing ever more-memorable unique events for international MICE over the past 10 years, but also evidence of the regard in which the company is held amongst Japanese MICE suppliers, and the desire of Kyoto City to see this most exciting addition to Japan’s venue portfolio host international events in the near future.

May Fortune Shine on Your Business

Toka_EbisuTHE J TEAM have paid their respects to the Shinto deity of good fortune in business at Kyoto’s Touka Ebisu festival.

This ancient festival draws huge crowds leading up to 10th January (touka) every year when the deity of business (Ebisu) is honoured and asked to look favourably on all companies for the coming twelve months.

This year we took the opportunity to throw some go-en (auspicious) coins for the deity on behalf of your business success. Let us know if your 2014 goals were exceeded!

In the Year of the Horse there is much we can hope to learn from our equine friends – Happy New Year

2014_Nengajo
In the Year of the Horse there is much that we can hope to learn from our equine friends:
the capacity to seemingly fly without wings;
the dignity with which they bear even the most cumbersome burden;
and perhaps, most of all, the ability to bring joy to those around …
‘When I bestride him, I soar, I am a hawk; he trots the air; the earth sings when he touches it’ (Shakespeare)
May 2014, like Henry V’s beloved horse, be a year which sees you soar

Wishing you a wonderful 2014
